Ninety percent of the parents are not able to pay school fees. Many of these parents are either unemployed or single parents. The EMS policy is to accept learners even though their parents are unable to pay for their education. It is our policy not to refuse any learners the right to education, irrespective of their social standing or religious affiliation. We also give preference to those learners that are economically disadvantage.
The school operates a feeding scheme to ensure that our learners have at least one nutritional meal per day. Many of our learners are from indigent homes and can barely afford to eat at home in the morning or have a decent uniform to wear. We also provide needy learners with uniforms.
We are currently running the school at a bare minimum and our monthly cost inclusive of salaries do not exceed Hundred Thousand Rand. This excludes extramural activities, learning aids, teaching aids, textbooks, reference material, stationery, etc. As mentioned, the monthly fees collected equate to approximately Ten Thousand Rand and the deficit must be carried by fundraising, temporary loans and gratuities.
